Apply a Chaos Black undercoat to the model. Once this dries, drybrush all the Dreadnought’s weapons, machinery, and pipework Boltgun Metal.
Next, paint all areas of armor Ultramarines Blue. To make sure that your paint does not flood into the panel lines, make sure that you don’t have too much on your brush. You will notice that the black undercoat will show up through the first coat of blue paint to dull the color.
To make the blue stand out more, paint a second coat once the first has finished drying. This second coat will help the blue appear brighter and less patchy.
To finish the armour, lightly drybrush the edges with ice blue. This drybrush will make the armor stand out as the edges are now highlighted. Parts such as the skulls and Purity Seals require a steady hand. Due to their small size, it’s important that you only have a small amount of paint on the brush, otherwise it will go everywhere and ruin your work. Carefully paint these areas with two coats of Bleached Bone. With the same technique as for the skulls, paint the Eagle on the body with Shining Gold. With the point of the brush, carefully paint the edge and center of the wax on the purity seal Blood Red.
